The Speed Art Museum is set to reopen after a 60 million renovation and expansion on March 12. It has been a long 3 years that the museum has been closed. The time was well spent and the Louisville treasure will now have double the amount of space for world class exhibits.

The newly renovated north building has a modern appearance with a fa├žade of bent metal panels that create a striped effect. Plan on checking the new Speed at the opening celebration. It will be 30 hours of non stop fun starting on March 12 at 10:00 am and running all the way until 4:00 pm on March 13.

Tour the new museum and enjoy free music, film, performance art from Actors Theatre, Squallis Puppeteers, the Louisville Orchestra and the Louisville Ballet. Speed curators will give pop up talks and a creation of a world peace sand mandala will be created by Tibetan Buddhist monks.

If you can not make this special day then plan a future visit. Thanks to a incredible 1 million dollar gift from Brown Forman in honor of the late Owsley Brown III the museum will be open on each Sunday for the next 5 years with free admission.  The free "Owsley Sundays" will run from March 20, 2016 through March of 2021.
