FAMILY FUN THIS WEEKEND

TWO OUTDOOR EVENTS THIS WEEKEND

FIREFLY HIKE

This year is a great year for fireflies. They are so magical and beautiful floating up at night. One of my guests from northern Illinois was so happy to see them this week. They are not as abundant in some areas of the country as they are here.

You can enjoy them each night in your own yard of course, and you can take a nighttime nature walk this Saturday from 8:30 to 10:00pm at The Louisville Nature Center. The Nature Center's naturalist, Rosemary Bauman will give a short talk about fireflies before the one hour walk.

Registration is required and there is a $5 fee per person.
For more information call the Louisville Nature Center at 502-458-1328.

The Summer Antiques Market at Locust Grove Historic Home will be this Sunday June 28 from 10:00am to 4:30 pm. The show features American country antiques, including books, furniture, garden accents, jewelry and silver.  Dealers from all over the south and Midwest set up booths on the lawn of the historic home. There are items in all price ranges.
Admission tickets which cost $8 for adults and free for children ages 12 and under, also include a tour of the house and museum.

CHURCHILL DOWNS AFTER DARK AND AMERICAN PHAROAH

SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE TRACK FOR DOWNS AFTER DARK

The meet at Churchill Downs goes on through the end of June. You still have time to go to the track for the races. And another very fun event is the Downs After Dark. The track is alive with bands and food vendors and of course racing under the lights.

There are many ticket options. My favorite is the Millionaires Row that includes an air conditioned interior spot and dinner and balcony viewing of the races. Another option is the new Courtyard area along the track homestretch. Tickets prices range from $10 for general admission to $70 for the Millionaires Row area.

This past weekend American Pharoah was at the track for the presentation for the Derby and Triple Crown trophies.  What a horse! So cool and calm with 40,000 people in the stands cheering for him.
Check out www.churchilldowns.com for more information and upcoming events at the track.
