KENTUCKY DERBY 2010



The month before spiffying the house and yard is nothing compared to the time spent during the week of Derby. New linens and favors go in each room. Hat boxes start arriving on Monday of Derby week and go to each room.
Later in the week our guests arrive and settle into their rooms. What a fun thing it is to see the gorgeous outfits and hats. Where else in the world can you find so many places to shop for beautiful hats? Every store in Louisville has a selection of hats from the best designers from all over the world.
Mid week we begin to cook the special food for the dinner parties we have here for them. Our favorites from this year were the shrimp seviche, Salad of Lump blue crab, avocado, and heirloom tomatoes on little red oak lettuce from our garden, homemade dill bread, standing beef rib roasts, haricots vert with fresh corn saute, race day pie, and blackberry upside down cake and a very decadent melt in your mouth dark chocolate cake with black raspberry ice cream.
The staff and I always take time out to watch the Derby on TV with a mint julep of course!
And what a let down it is for Sunday to arrive and the festivities are over for another year!
