Louisville is full of great events and festivals that are held each spring. Of course the Derby Festival is one great two weeks of events starting with Thunder Over Louisville fireworks on April 17 and ending with the Kentucky Derby on May 1. During those two weeks there is something of interest for everyone. Some of the favorites are the Balloon Fest April 22, 23 and 24, the Mini and Marathon Race April 24 and the Great Streamboat Race April 28. There are three art fairs held that are standouts: The Cherokee Triangle Art Fair on April 24 and 25, the Art in the Arbor Fair May 8 and 9 and the Butchertown Art Fair on May 15. Gardeners shouldn't miss the Gardeners Fair at Locust Grove on May 7 and 9. It is always held Mother's Day weekend and offers a great luncheon too. Top Spring off with a trip to the Abbey Road on the River Festival which is held Memorial Day Weekend in downtown Louisville. It is the largest Beetles festival in the country and brings together more than 70 bands from 13 countries for the 5 day event.

This is one of my favorite events in March. I went last year on Friday and came away with more than I could carry ...at unbelievable low prices. Then I went back on the last day when everything is even a better deal. On Sunday after 2p.m. you can fill a bag with books for only $10! So all you book lovers be ready. Hours are: Thursday March 11 5:00p.m. to7:30p.m. Preview Night ( you have to be a member of Locust Grove for this) Friday March 12, Saturday March 13 and Sunday March 14 Open every day from 10a.m. to 4:30 p.m. And if you have never toured Locust Grove Historic Home it would well be worth your time to tour the house and grounds of this special 1790 landmark.
