a wooden derby horse with jockey in blue and white checked silks and clay pots with blue pansies in front of the horse in the garden Louisville is full of great events and festivals that are held each spring. Of course the Derby Festival is one great two weeks of events starting with Thunder Over Louisville fireworks on April 17 and ending with the Kentucky Derby on May 1. During those two weeks there is something of interest for everyone. Some of the favorites are the Balloon Fest April 22, 23 and 24, the Mini and Marathon Race April 24 and the Great Streamboat Race April 28. There are three art fairs held that are standouts: The Cherokee Triangle Art Fair on April 24 and 25, the Art in the Arbor Fair May 8 and 9 and the Butchertown Art Fair on May 15. Gardeners shouldn't miss the Gardeners Fair at Locust Grove on May 7 and 9. It is always held Mother's Day weekend and offers a great luncheon too. Top Spring off with a trip to the Abbey Road on the River Festival which is held Memorial Day Weekend in downtown Louisville. It is the largest Beetles festival in the country and brings together more than 70 bands from 13 countries for the 5 day event.
